Control of Gene Expression in Bacteria by Repression

If a gene is usually expressed (is active), it is said
to be constitutive. Gene expression in bacteria
can vary considerably depending on the presence
or absence of certain substances in the
nutrient medium. An important mechanism for
controlling transcription is a signal (termination
signal) that can terminate transcription or
translation. It lies between the promoter and
the beginning of the first structural gene and is
called the attenuator (attenuation of translation).
